Sunday morning course:
Jar Lid Reliquary Necklaces –2 hour online workshop demonstrating how to turn old jar lids into necklaces that may double as a small reliquary. Using very basic materials I will offer a variety of demonstrations on how to approach this style of necklace. It is the perfect way for people of all ages, friends and families to spend a weekend morning, in a stress-free, creative environment. I will be available to answer questions and will have examples and a PDF handout available for all participants. Participants should come ready to begin making. Once I have demonstrated, there will be time for people to begin making and ask questions. A materials list is supplied for the basics, beyond that, participants are asked to have any material that they emotionally respond to, have in surplus, love the color of, want to try out, or want to get rid of. We’ll layer it all together to create our own Reliquary Necklaces!
Supplies:
All supplies are the responsibility of the participants. Any questions in regards to materials on the supply list may be directed to Jennifer Wells at ; jennwellstudio@gmail.com
Material/ Supply Item:
Metal jar lids
(As many as you want): You could potentially use plastic lids, but I will be demonstrating on metal lids as they allow you to hammer them and alter their form, plastic lids do not.
Your pantry- just start saving those jar lids as you work through the pantry.
Wooden block
(1)- a 2” x 4” x 4” or a scrap block of wood. We will be using this as a backing to hammer holes into our lids.
Your backyard, or a friends scrap pile
Hammer
(1)
Nail
(1): a large 1⁄4” wide nail for creating holes in our lids
Garage- yours or the neighbor’s
Cord or thick thread/ twine:
(2 yards - this should give you at least 4 necklaces)
Thinner than 1⁄4” - you can get cooking thread from the grocery store or a thick twine (you want it to be smooth as this will be the “chain” part of the necklace and we don’t want it to irritate your neck). Ace hardware has cotton twine that would be perfect. It would also take a dye well.
Elmer’s Glue /or another water based glue:
(1 standard school bottle)
Krazy Glue(1 bottle) this will come in handy for the quick holds.
ace
Scissors or X-acto knife
(1): if using an x-acto knife be sure to have an appropriate surface to cut on)
Bic lighter
(1): ( optional- depending on your cord, and other materials, you can use this to create a “burn effect”)
Electrical wire multi-color (2-3 yards): (optional-I’ll show some simple things you can do with the wire, this type of wire is usually very easy to work with and can be cut using regular scissors ( you will dull your scissors))
Clothes Pins
(1-5):
- to hold things in place
toothpicks
(just a few will do):
for those hard to reach places
Additional Supply suggestions:

Writing a short play is a great way for theatre people or writers in other genres to get acquainted with playwriting. This workshop will review the essential elements of dramatic writing in general, and the specific conventions of the short play. Participants will have written an initial draft of a short play by the conclusion of the workshop. A short play festival is planned for some time in Spring 2025.
